Frequently asked questions
Matthiolas, commonly known as stock flowers, represent happiness, contentment, and a life of ease. Their delightful scent and beautiful array of colours make them a symbol of a joyful life and lasting beauty.
Matthiolas are wonderful for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and as thank-you gestures. Their fragrant nature makes them popular for special occasions.
Fresh matthiolas will have a strong, pleasant fragrance and upright, firm petals. The leaves should be vibrant green without any signs of yellowing.
Matthiolas in an arrangement typically last 2-3 days, depending on factors like temperature, humidity, and initial freshness. Cooler temperatures help preserve matthiolas, while high humidity may shorten their life. The fresher the matthiolas when cut and arranged, the longer they'll last.
To make matthiolas last longer, follow these tips:
- Trim the stems at a 45-degree angle before placing them in a vase.
- Remove any leaves that would be submerged in the water.
- Change the water in the vase every 2-3 days and add flower food to nourish the flowers.
- Keep the matthiolas away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and drafts.
- Avoid placing the matthiolas near ripening fruits, as they release ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to wilt faster.
