5 Plant & Floral Cafes In KL You Have To Visit
Happy World Coffee Day, #bloomies! Ah… Coffee. So much more than just a drink, it's a life-giving elixir, a wake-up call and an experience of its own! It's hard to go a single morning without needing a sip of the best coffee in town and it's exactly the same for us. Except, us being coffee lovers AND plant/flower enthusiasts at the same time, we often find ourselves frequenting plant or floral cafes.
In fact, there are so many Instagram-worthy cafes in KL that have adopted a nature-esque vibe that we just had to share with you some of our favourites. Keep reading for a list of our top 5 plant & floral cafes in KL you have to visit, including local favourites like Lisette's, CC by Mel, Planterchin and more!
Dear Cafe-owners, we love your places so much, we just had to send some of you some flowers(Neveah) as a way to say thank you for the great coffee and lovely vibes. We’ll see you in our next coffee run!
Plant Cafes
PlanterChin
Some may know it as that cafe in KL with lots of plants and cats, while others may know it as that plant shop that also sells coffee. Well, it’s both! PlanterChin is the brainchild and collaboration space of Outcast Coffee and TamanHati.
Both lovers of coffee and plants, they founded this space in a quiet colonial building on the outskirts of Bangsar. Here’s a place we love to go to for great coffee, good conversations and the best rubs! RUBS?? Here’s why:
CATS! More than the irresistible smell of fresh-brewed coffee and a room full of plants, you’ll also find their resident cats just roaming freely (or more likely snoozing) but always ready for a free rub. Other than coffee, they also serve all kinds of baked goods, matcha tea and most recently kombucha. YUM!
Bonus: if you’re a fan of kombucha, then you’ll love this. When night comes, Planterchin transforms from a humble plant cafe into an exciting kombucha bar called Kombuchin! Here, you can enjoy a variety of kombucha mocktails and yakitori while listening to live music. Keep an eye on their Instagram for the latest info.
Location: 6a, Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar, 59000 Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours: Tuesday - Sunday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Sipping Corner
If you couldn’t already tell, Sipping Corner isn’t your usual plant cafe. It’s actually part of a plant store called Plant & Pot Studio. Upon entering the store, you’re greeted left, right and centre by hundreds of plants, leaving you with only a small path to walk across. It’s truly like walking through a jungle!
Make your way through the lush greenery and you’ll eventually find yourself at the aptly named Sipping Corner. It’s a cosy little space nestled among the green where you can enjoy a variety of coffees in silence.
When we say variety, we mean it. The folks behind the bar at Sipping Corner love to experiment with their coffees and sometimes even brings in speciality beans to try. Some of their current signatures include Creamy Coffee, Salted Gula Melaka Latte, Freddo Latte and more!
Location:
- 1-1, Jalan Awf 3a, Ampang Waterfront, 68000 Ampang, Selangor
- 78G, Jalan Puteri 5/5, Bandar Puteri, 47100 Puchong, Selangor
Operating Hours: Daily, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
One Half x Ilaika
If you’re a frequent visitor to Taman Paramount, you may have noticed a cosy corner store that’s absolutely covered in lush greenery and hanging plants. That’s One Half x Ilaika! A joint multi-label store/cafe selling all kinds of local apparel, accessories and of course, coffee. We just love browsing through their selections after we’re done with our morning cuppa.
But the big question is, how’s their coffee? Well, with the founder, Keith Koay, being the Malaysia Barista Champion of 2016 and 2018, some might even say it’s the best coffee in KL! Other things on the menu include their very own handmade sourdough bread that changes based on seasonal ingredients and other bakes that pair great with their coffee.
To note: They’ve transitioned to a pop-up store just a few doors down in Awegallery during the MCO period but will soon open up their doors in their original store on the 10th of October. We can’t wait to see what they have in store!
Location: 17, Jalan 20/13, Taman Paramount, 46300 Petaling Jaya
Operating Hours: Daily, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Floral Cafes
Lisette’s Cafe and Bakery
Moving on from plant cafes, here’s one of our favourite floral cafes you should definitely check out. Located right next to our other fav cafe PlanterChin, is Lisette’s Cafe and Bakery. A cafe with a home-y, lived-in vibe and a set of massive trees growing right by the front door.
However, our favourite part of Lisette’s is undoubtedly their amazing flower wall! Spanning the entire width of their outdoor wall is a picturesque display featuring hundreds of flowers in stunning pink hues! Taking the perfect insta-worthy photo by the wall is a must, and totally excusable! wink
Of course, once the eyes have “eaten” so must the mouth! In terms of coffee, they have all the classics and they do it well! The espresso is strong and roasted to perfection, while the Latte is just the right amount of creaminess. As for food, we wouldn’t forgive you if you left without trying their eggs benedict!
Location: No. 8, Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar, 59000 Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours: Daily, 8:00 am - 10:00 pm
CC by Mel
Okay, while this may not exactly be a floral cafe, their edible flower meals are just too beautiful NOT to include, can you blame us?
Most people might know CC by Mel as that esthetically pleasing Japanese fusion cafe serving up viral edible flowers in their food. However, what most of you may not know is that the founder Mel(anie) is actually a florist by trade, like us!
She first started CC by Mel as a floral workshop studio with an attached cafe are for their students to relax. However, due to the ongoing MCO, they have had to put their workshops on pause and shift their focus to the cafe where they started selling food. Luckily, this would turn out to be a success for them!
In the past year, CC by Mel’s Japanese fusion dishes like sandos, coffee, desserts and more have gone somewhat viral. And well deserved! We just love how they’ve infused floral elements into each dish in the form of beautiful edible flowers. Most recently, they’ve also started making Matcha Ebi Sandos & in-house Smoked Salmon Pasta.
However, their best seller (and our personal favourite) is their Nori Taco! It’s a fusion of Japanese sushi and Mexican Taco, sounds good right? It comes in 3 flavours: Tropica Nori(Salmon), Yu Nori(Tuna) and Ebi Nori(Shrimp). Pair it with one of their signature coffees topped off with latte art of intricate flowers.
Location: B-2-21, Aurora Place, Jalan Persiaran Jalil 1, Bukit Jalil, 57000 Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours: Daily, 10:00 am - 8:30 pm
