The Unsung Heroines of BloomThis

As we celebrate International Women's Month, we'd like to take a moment to shine a light on the unsung heroines of BloomThis - the women behind the scenes who work tirelessly to make our bouquets and gifts come to life.

These four incredible women may not always be in the spotlight, but they are the backbone of our operations and bring a wealth of creativity and expertise to our team. We sat down with them to learn more about their experiences and who they are! Come on then, let us meet the team!

Loqect Fouzee
Social Media & Community Executive

Who are you, and what do you do here at BloomThis?
I'm Loqect, and my role at BloomThis involves managing our social media channels, creating content, as well as building our community.

As a woman, what challenges have you faced in the workplace, and how did you overcome them?
At the beginning of my career at BloomThis, people may have perceived me as timid due to my small figure and my introverted self, leading some to doubt my abilities. However, I found that being proactive in doing my work has helped to break this perception. I learned that stepping out of my comfort zone was always more rewarding than staying in my comfort zone.

Throughout my 2 years here, I have taken on multiple tasks that require me to take charge with minimal guidance which has helped build my confidence and personal growth. I am also very grateful that the company has recently recognized my performance and contributions by awarding me the Best Potential Award for 2022.

How has working at BloomThis empowered you as a woman?
The nature of flowers is often symbolized as soft, gentle and fragile as how women are often symbolized. But the reality of working in a flower company like BloomThis actually requires you to be resilient in solving problems and tackling challenges.

I also learn and get inspired a lot by how our female colleagues and our ladyboss, Penny handles their day-to-day responsibilities that differ from one another.

One is leading a whole company, one is managing a project, and another may be creating beautiful flower arrangements. It proves that women can take on any role and challenge. Women can be soft and gentle, but also brave.

What advice would you give to other women facing gender inequality in the workplace?
Actions AND words speak more than your physiques and gender. How you bring yourself, and the way you speak says a lot about you.

What I’m trying to say is, trust in yourself, have confidence, learn from mistakes and others, and do what you feel is right. That way, people will start seeing you for who you truly really are and what you are capable of.

What's your favourite pick from our list of blooms?

Okay, so can I just say that the Mini Summer Sunflower Bouquet is the bomb? It's like a burst of sunshine in my room, and every time I see those cute little sunflowers, it just makes my day a whole lot better.

Who are you, and what do you do here at BloomThis?
Hello, I'm Casey, and I'm the brand designer of BloomThis. Basically, if you see any element that requires designing - be it digital or printed - it's most likely done by me :D

As a woman, what challenges have you faced in the workplace, and how did you overcome them?
I would say that I have a lot of ideas and opinions to improve, better, or help the company but I'm not very good or fast with translating them into words, so it's difficult for me to translate my thoughts into words during meetings and brainstorm sessions, and because of that, I sometimes feel that my ideas are brushed off quickly before I can finish my sentences. Or maybe I just have a soft voice and nobody can hear me during the meetings 😅

How has working at BloomThis empowered you as a woman?
BloomThis is a company that sees beyond our gender and race. We have a female #girlboss (Penny), a male #bloomboss (Giden), and a pretty equal amount of employees between genders - leaning a bit more towards female employees as we are a flower company hehe.

Anyways, the main point is that the people at BloomThis generally look at your actions based on what you have achieved for the company instead of whether you are a woman or not. It also helps that our superiors always have an 'open door' policy and are willing to understand the challenges we are facing, listen to our feedback, and guide us whenever we need help.

As long as you're hardworking, a team player, accountable, and willing to learn and better yourself, BloomThis will be there to fertilise you and help you bloom!

What advice would you give to other women facing gender inequality in the workplace?
Know your worth. Look to the past - what you have achieved, all your dreams to better the future, all the things you have learned along the way; Look at you in this present moment - the accumulation of all the past yous, your experiences, and decisions that have made you into the woman you are today; Look to the future - shining brightly with you at the focal point.

Believe in what you can achieve, keep trying and learning new things, and every mistake made is an opportunity to help you become a better version of yourself.

Never let anyone diminish your worth by dictating what you can and cannot do. Keep pushing forward and prove them wrong.

Of course, rest. We are not machines and we can't take on everything, even the best in the game need to take some time off to recharge so that they can come back stronger.

I will end with what I think is an overused but accurate quote: “Every flower blooms in its own time.” – Ken Petti.

No 😭

Brand Executive

Who are you, and what do you do here at BloomThis?
I manage brand collaborations and partnerships, ensuring we continue to innovate and help people create more special moments.

I oversee timelines, budgets, and quality, and work closely with everyone in the BT team, from production to marketing, procurement, inventory, partners, tech, logistics, and customer service.

As a woman, what challenges have you faced in the workplace, and how did you overcome them?
I have faced challenges in being underestimated, but my work and capabilities speak for themselves. To quote Sun Tzu's Art of War, "To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill."

Yes.

How has working at BloomThis empowered you as a woman?
BloomThis is all about breaking barriers and unleashing creativity, regardless of gender. It's so refreshing to be in a work environment where everyone is appreciated for their skills and ideas, and not just their gender. Plus, working with Penny is just great - she's always inspiring us to push ourselves to the next level.

What advice would you give to other women facing gender inequality in the workplace?
Don't let anyone tell you that you're not good enough or that you don't belong in the boardroom. You have the skills, the talent, and the drive to succeed, so go out there and make it happen.

What's your favourite pick from our list of blooms?

I have to say, the Mini Rachel Cappuccino Rose Bouquet has become my go-to for gifting my loved ones. It's just the right mix of sweet and chic, and always brings a smile to their faces!

Who are you, and what do you do here at BloomThis?
Hey there! I'm Amalyna, and I'm a Product Specialist in the Business Development department. Basically, I'm the one that creates trendy and in-demand products that you see on our website.

Fun fact: I started out as a part-time worker under the product department before joining the BloomThis team!

As a woman, what challenges have you faced in the workplace, and how did you overcome them?
As a woman in the workplace, I've faced some challenges where colleagues underestimated my creations or passion for my job. But hey, I don't let that bring me down! I always go with the flow and stick to my opinions as long as it does not go against my principles. And guess what? I prove naysayers wrong every time!

How has working at BloomThis empowered you as a woman?
Working at BloomThis has given me the opportunity to express my feelings and passion towards my creations. It's amazing to be part of a team that values and supports individuality, no matter the gender.

Plus, I get to guide and help other team members. I believe in giving everyone equal opportunities to show off their skills and potential to learn from each other.

What advice would you give to other women facing gender inequality in the workplace?
Ladies, always remember to be brave and bold when you're faced with gender inequality in the workplace. Know your worth, and don't be afraid to ask for what you deserve. Never let anyone bring you down, because you are capable of achieving great things!
