Take care of your packs! Here's some tips and instructions from our gifting experts to use your BloomThis celebration pack.
Your celebration pack may come with flowers or plants which need extra TLC.
1. Refrigerate your cake
Once your cake arrives, please store it in a fridge. Certain cakes may be able to last at normal room temperature but some cakes absolutely need to be chilled. We think cold cakes taste better too.
2. Serve your cake
Cut the cake in any way you like with the included cake knife. Serve a slice on your favourite plate and pair with a fine Darjeeling or Earl Grey tea.
3. Place balloons in a cool & dry area
Place your balloon in a cool and dry room or shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight and extreme heat. All of these conditions may make your balloon pop.
4. Avoid sharp or hot objects near balloons
Be extra careful when handling sharp or hot objects near the balloon. A slight brush of a sharp scissors or a touch from a hot pan is enough for your balloon to go with a bang.
5. Keep pets away from balloons
Display your balloons on a table or similarly tall surface to avoid playful pets from touching your balloon. Most pets have have sharp claws which may accidentally pop it.
If your package contains fresh flowers in a bouquet:
1. Remove the wrapping
Carefully remove the bouquet wraps with a pair of scissors. Cut gently along the surface of the wrapping papers and peel off any cellophane tape stuck to the stems.
2. Get a clean vase
The cleaner your vase, the lesser the bacteria and the longer your flowers bloom. Of course, you can also use a jar, a mug, a teapot or anything that you fancy.
3. Fill clean water
Fill the vase with cold tap water. Too much water can speed the decay of the stems, and too little will hamper hydration. We suggest filling your vase up to two-thirds full.
4. Add flower food
Add flower food into the vase from the sachet. Flower food can increase your flower life up to 60%. This is because it contains all the nutrients that your flowers need. That said, remember to keep your flower food in a safe place and out of reach of babies, children and pets.
5. Trim flower stems
Cut approximately 2 cm off each stem at a slant (and repeat every few days). Flower stems will brown and decay which will hamper hydration. By snipping off the bottom few centimeters, your flowers are hydrated better and last longer.
6. Prune lower leaves
Remove all the lower leaves of your flower stems. Make sure there are no leaves in the water because they decay much faster underwater. Decaying leaves will create bacteria that will spoil your flowers.
7. Arrange in your vase
After you've trimmed the stems and pruned the leaves, arrange them in your filled vase however you like. Here's a pro tip: place taller stems at the back and the short ones at the front.
8. Place in a cool area
Place your flowers in a cool room or shaded area. Avoid direct air-conditioning, direct sunlight, extreme heat, dust and ripening fruit. All of these conditions may make your flowers wilt faster.
9. Change water daily
Change the water in your vase when the water becomes discoloured or murky. Dirty water will block the stems and hamper hydration. The water in your vase should always be crystal clear. Again, use cold tap water.
10. Remove wilting petals
When a flower begins to wilt, remove the petals or the whole flower from the bouquet. Flowers bloom and wilt at different times. Removing wilted flowers will help to avoid the spread of bacteria to the other flowers.
11. Mist flowers daily
Spray or spritz your flowers with clean tap water once a day to give it additional hydration. Flowers can absorb water from places other than the base of its stems. To do this right, use a bottle with a fine mist setting and spray from 6 inches to 1 foot away from the flowers to ensure an even coverage.
If your package contains plants:
1. Place in a bright area
Place your plant in a bright but shaded room or area. Avoid direct sunlight and extreme heat as it may make your plant wilt. If you're placing your plant beside a window, turn your pot around to ensure even light coverage to all areas of the plant.
2. Water just enough
Feel the soil of your plant, near the edge of the pot. If it feels dry and/or your plant's leaves are browning and shrivelling up, it's time to water your plant. Water your plant with clean tap water until water begins to run out of the hole at the bottom of the pot and the soil feels damp and soft. Remember to water only the soil and avoid 'watering' the plant or it's leaves.
3. Fertilise when needed
As a general guide, you can fertilise your plants once a month or when your plant is flowering or growing. Instead of using industrial fertilisers, you can use used coffee power as a substitute.
4. Keep pets & babies away
If you have a pet and/or babies, be cautious about the type of plant you purchase. Certain plants may cause allergic reactions that may be fatal. For more info on your particular plant, you can learn more on its product page by visiting our Plant Collection or searching for your plant with the search function on our website.
5. Learn about your plant
How to be a better plant parent? Plants are living beings and they benefit from love and care. Be observant and attentive, read up more on your plants and take the proper care when needed.
For the other items in your package:
1. Read and follow the care instructions
Your package may come with unique items like soft toys, chocolates, snacks, wines and etc. For these items, do read the care instructions provided with your item to care and store them properly.
